At CMA Medicine, we offer state of the art laser tattoo removal with PicoWay technology. The PicoWay is a picosecond Q switch laser used for tattoo removal that targets the ink using photo-acoustic technology, therefore, allowing the most tattoo clearance. The ink is broken into tiny particles that are then cleared by the body. Due to the short pulse duration used with the PicoWay, the risk of scarring is decreased and the tissue surrounding the tattoo is left safely intact.
What can I expect post-treatment?
Immediately post your laser tattoo removal treatment the area treated may be tender to touch, swollen, and blistered. Cold compresses, topical steroid, and Aquaphor can be used to help relieve any discomfort during the healing process.
What are the possible side effects post treatment?
Skin hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, scarring, and infection are side effects of tattoo removal. Please avoid sun exposure for one month prior to treatment as well as sunless tanning lotions or sprays. It is critical to avoid UV exposure to the treated area for one-month post treatment. Good sunblock and physical coverage are important factors to promote healthy healing.
Please avoid any exercise for 4 days post your laser tattoo removal treatment. Avoid hot showers, Jacuzzis, and saunas for 24 hours. Pool water and salt water should be avoided until the area is totally healed (generally one week). Cleanse the area two to three times daily with an antibacterial soap (i.e. Softsoap) and apply antibiotic ointment every morning and night for 7 days post-treatment. Do not pick the treated area as an open wound can increase the risk of infection.
How often are treatments?
We recommend a series of 6 to 10 laser tattoo removal sessions spaced 8-10 weeks apart. Some treatments require more than 10 treatments. The amount of treatments varies depending on the individual’s skin type, ink, and timeframe.
